This Morning’s 5K Run
This Morning’s 5K Run
This morning I laced up for a 5K. Nothing major  just a three-mile run to get the blood moving. I went to register, and right there across from the start line was a wine shop. So of course, I stepped inside.
I asked one of the gentlemen, “Do you all make and sell your own wine, or just retail?”
He told me it was retail. I asked if the owner was available, and he said, “We’re kind of busy right now.”
So I said, no problem, and stepped back out. But here’s the thing when I walked up and said “Good morning, sir, how you doing?” the look he gave me was basically like, “Who the fuck are you?”
And that’s cool. Because that’s exactly why I grind. That’s why I stay focused. I’m manufacturing my own wine. My goal is to get it in stores, to build relationships, to push through. And one day? I’ll have my own shop. My own retail space. And I won’t have to worry about that type of energy.
Moments like that don’t discourage me; they lock me in. Just like this run. 5Ks don’t excite me much anymore  it’s just three miles with strangers. But it gets me up, it gets my blood circulating. And today, the finish line is set right in front of that same wine spot.
So for three miles, that’s what I’ll be thinking about: the grind, the future, the retail dream.
From running miles to running my own store.
